At Cacao & Spice, every detail is intentional. Our logo features an indigenous figure—a choice we made with great respect and purpose. The figure represents the Alifuru people of the Moluccan Islands, the indigenous community my family proudly belongs to. The Alifuru identity is crucial to us, as it reflects not only our heritage but also the origins of the spices we use in our products.
MAluku- Moluccan Islands
The Moluccan Islands, once known as the "Spice Islands," have a deep historical connection to the spice trade that shaped Amsterdam’s rich history.
This indigenous symbol in our logo isn’t a marketing tool; it’s a tribute to our lineage, a reflection of our commitment to preserving indigenous identity.
We understand that images of indigenous peoples are often misused. For us, including an Alifuru person in the logo isn’t appropriation but an homage to our roots and an effort to bring recognition to the stories of the indigenous communities we represent.
A Family of Advocates
My family's legacy in advocating for indigenous rights spans generations. My late Aunty Pelpina Sahureka dedicated her life to this cause, representing indigenous voices at the United Nations since the 1970s. Her work was a beacon for many, illuminating the challenges indigenous peoples face and working tirelessly to address them.
Today, her efforts are carried forward by my cousin, Ghazali Ohorella. An influential voice at the UN, he specializes in enhancing indigenous peoples’ influence in global decision-making. He advocates for Pacific and Alifuru communities, using his expertise in diplomacy to ensure that indigenous voices are not lost in international negotiations.
Ghazali's vision is not just representation but true influence, helping indigenous leaders engage effectively and build alliances that can change policies.
His efforts are an inspiration to our work at Cacao & Spice, where every product we craft symbolizes not only the flavors of the Spice Islands but also the resilience, history, and future of the Alifuru people.

Our Commitment
As a brand deeply rooted in our heritage, Cacao & Spice stands for more than just flavors; we stand for acknowledgment, representation, and respect for the rich histories of indigenous peoples around the world.
We hope to continue honoring our heritage with every product, story, and advocacy, bringing visibility and support to indigenous communities, just as our family has done for decades.
